Candlelighters would not be successful in our main objectives of providing emotional and educational support to families coping with childhood cancer if we did not have the Parent Consultant Program. At the same time we offer practical assistance to the families at the treatment centers, such as parking validations, gas cards, meal passes, and grocery gift certificates, to help ease the financial burden of diagnosis.
The Parent Consultants are employees of Candlelighters who have permission from the treatment centers to interact with childhood cancer families in the hospitals and clinics. Each Parent Consultant brings her own unique set of talents and skills in interacting with diagnosed children, siblings and parents, healthcare professionals, teachers, and community members.
